3G coverage in Havana already includes all municipalities. Those users located in the city of Havana will appreciate an improvement in the use of Nauta email service. The technology is also available in the main municipalities of  the rest of the provinces in the country and in the tourism poles. ETECSA is currently working to enable the network in the special municipality, Isla de la Juventud.

The giant South Korean Group ¨Samsung Electronics¨ announced the launch of a new cell phone shop in the country. Located within the 3rd and 70th supermarket in Playa municipality, Samsung will now offer a second alternative to obtain their equipment. The Brand is already popular among Cubans. Some of their models have been available in the island for a while. Commercialized by the state-owned Communications Company ETECSA the cell phones range from 110 to 155 CUC.

Miami, October 11th, 2016 - The Cuba Emprende Foundation, #CubaNow, CIC Miami, Startup Angels and Mano Americas today announced the winners of 10x10KCuba, a contest to select ten of the most promising tech-enabled businesses in Cuba.

The contest drew 88 applications from Cuban entrepreneurs based in 12 of the Island’s 15 provinces.The ten selected businesses are concentrated in mobile applications for tourism, dining, lodging and cultural services, but also include e-commerce, employment, real estate rental and customized messaging platforms.

MIAMI, United States.- Havana and several US ISPs are negotiating how to expand access to service Cuba, one of the most disconnected countries in the hemisphere. Negotiations were recognized by the Cuban official Josefina Vidal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Foreign Ministry) Cuban, in his Twitter account. Vidal participated in an exchange with users of the social network who asked questions after the conclusion of the latest meeting of the Bilateral Commission.

The first regularly scheduled commercial flight between the United States and Cuba in more than half a century is set to depart on Wednesday, starting a new chapter in the Obama administration’s bid to open trade and travel with the former Cold War foe.

The first of several U.S. carriers to begin serving Cuba in the coming months, JetBlue Airways  will fly from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Santa Clara, a city in the center of Cuba known for its monument to revolutionary Che Guevara.

Wireless carrier AT&T said it had signed a deal with Cuba’s state-owned telecoms provider to offer direct roaming services to its customers visiting Cuba. AT&T said on Monday it would announce the pricing and the launch date for the service at a later date. Reuters reported in March that AT&T was trying to complete a mobile communications agreement with Cuba’s telecoms monopoly, Empresa De Telecomunicaciones De Cuba (Etecsa).

10x10KCuba contest closed with 88 applications, mostly mobile apps, websites for lodging, dining and tourism. Software for Business category and Websites for Consumers also received many applications. This is consistent with the growing tourism sector in the last year and the the emergence of small private software development teams. Most applications are from Havana, but it is good to see many others distributed throughout the island.

Fuego Enterprises Inc., a company specialized in developing business opportunities in Cuba and the US, is poised to enter what many predict will be the largest Caribbean market: classified ads and Internet e-commerce in Cuba. After acquiring the US-based website porlalivre.com, an Internet portal similar to Craigslist for Cuba, Fuego announced it is further developing the site to become the most reliable Cuban platform to buy new and used goods and hire services.
