Gaceta of Cuba published a legislation informing that TRD Caribe retail stores are allowed to offer services of public connection to Internet to their clients. The regulation has not been shared through the formal communication channels used by the government but it has indeed been registered. It responds to a request raised by TRD Caribe to the Ministry of Communications.

According to the news published by El País, three young Cuban developers will attend the upcoming training sessions led by key companies such as Netflix, Google, Facebook. Juan Luis Santana, Juan Alejandro Hernandez and Sergio Leon, founders of a Cuban cultural platform called "Kehaypahoy" are the chosen ones to visit and ensure professional improvement in the U.S.

This past Friday May 6th, LACNIC concluded their 25th edition, celebrated in Cuba, one of the countries with the lowest internet access rate in the world, yet once again chosen to host an event on IT. Under the organization of ETECSA, the only telecommunications company on the island, and with the participation and sponsorship of different global brands like Netflix, Copa Airlines, Infoblox and Huawei, among others, gathered over 400 professionals in technology and internet worldwide.

This ranking on Free Software development is raised every year. Universities from Spain and Latin America are among the institutions included.The ranking is made to measure the importance given to creating and distributing such programs in the different centers.

RuSL 2016 is already available and among the universities joining the Top 10, according to the Hipertextual.com site, we find the University of IT Sciences (UCI), Cuba, occupying a honoring third position.

This package of management solutions is produced by the CEIGE Center at UCI. The tool supports the management of resources within enterprises, easing the decision making process and enabling data to internal and external users.

The initial idea of the project came out back in 2008. It was mainly raised by the need of a system that comprehensively managed all processes related to financial resources, finances, human resources, planning, inventory, production and marketing within Cuban companies.

Softel, the Cuban company for  IT Solutions, was recently credited by the Union of International Telecommunications (ITU) with the category “Champion Project” designated among the Awards 2016 of the World Summit on the Information Society. The meeting and official ceremony will take place on May 3rd in Switzerland .

The Cuba Emprende Foundation, Cuba Now, and Startup Angels, are partnering on a startup competition where 10 selected Cuban participants will have the opportunity to win 10,000 USD each in products and services. The contest was announced today at AngelSummit Americas event, in Miami.

The applicants will have the possibility to submit their applicatioms from May 16th through July 15th, 2016, and the results will be announced on October 1st.

The regional vice president of Western Union for Americas, Juan Loraschi, announced the launch of remittance services from across the world to Cuba following U.S. regulatory and policy changes that allow Cubans and non-Cubans to send remittances via Western Union to this nation. Loraschi told EFE that from now on 200 countries will be able to get the money within minutes to over 490 local agents distributed in all provinces and municipalities in Cuba.
